C.D. Graham Stallard checking the conditions!!!!
I arrived at the car park early again, with yet another model
to trim before racing. The hill is getting easier. This must be the result
of the number of times its been climbed this year. A curious thing was observed
while climbing the hill. The ground was icy and there were small hailstones
peppered along the path. Still the rain was not due until mid afternoon.
More than enough time to hold the comp. Once at the top, the Bivi was set
up and paper work laid out. Models trimmed and the course set out.
Ten hardy souls arrived for Foamie and Nine for Hard. Even as we started,
the wintry showers were arriving. Yet there were no dissenters, so off we
went. We flew the first round of Foamie. Some interesting races and some
close. The race I was in, was quiet a laugh. At launch, two out of three
models landed, and I was not one of them. Still the models all bounced and
the pilots were in the air before the start. It was quiet a close race,
where I almost managed to beat a Sblitz with a Zagi, but cut the last turn,
to hand Paul with his Sblitz a win. The race between Roger, Richard and
Chris was interesting. Roger was struggling to catch up after a cut, when
Richard and Chris had a mid air at the far turn, putting both models into
a flattish spin, resulting in both models landing the other side of the
fence. Roger thanked them kindly and cruised to the 5 points. The wintry
showers were not co-operating and we were steadily getting wetter. Still
we ran a round of hard. The conditions were quiet testing as the lift at
times dropped. There were no mid airs, I am glad to say, however Chris managed
to plant his Sambal on the lower path. Painful and a puzzle as to why. The
next round saw Richard's Adrenaline describe a graceful right hand arc to
the lower path disassembling the model on impact. The conclusion latter
was water had permeated the electronics reducing range and introducing large
servos offsets. At the end of the hard round, with increasing precipitation,
we did the sensible thing and called it a day. The pub was drier and warmer.
Just one more in this half of the year. Eventually we must get a day with
good weather, mustn't we!
