Well off we go again with Pylon Two being cancelled due to 'good weather' (Ask Chris Moynihan for an explanation) we assembled around 9-00am at the foot of Beacon Hill. The wind, we were reliably informed was averaging 21mph, South Southwest so unfortunately Beacon Hill was GO!!!! (The climb just gets harder each time). So it was that ten merry racers made their way up the path.
Its
not often you see a row of pylon racers all apparently in one piece, this
was the pits before we started and after...............
After a slow start the racing was to our usual high standard! with some really close fought and exciting battles (So this is why we do it !!!!). A memorable moment was Graham Stallard on the start. He was just a touch early and in typical Graham starting style continued vertical to a point I would swear was going to be terminal, pulling out were the C.D. could not see him, it was that low (or was this a cunning plan to avoid a jump start) it had me worried, Graham just shrugged it off.
A memorable embarrassing moment was, although there were ten
pilots on the slope only nine competed, Tony Morgan left his transmitter at
home and paid the price by being a flag man all day.
The fly-off consisted of Chis Moynihan, Norman Childs and Richard Thornton
and was very closely contested by Chris and Richard swapping leads all the
time, Richard losing out eventually due to a missed turn. But of course all
the time they were trying to catch Norman flying his specially constructed
foamie racer which due to recent changes in the club rules gets 20% lead on
conventional racers, Alas despite a valiant effort Chris could not catch up
the eight lap lead so Norman was 1st, Chris 2nd, Richard 3rd. Judging by the
conversation in the pub afterwards, the new rules are causing some concern,
more of which will follow I am sure.
